The short version

The Lumin Notes app does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data. Everything — recording, transcription, summarization, speaker labeling, and search — happens entirely on your Mac. The app is distributed with no outgoing-network entitlement, so the macOS App Sandbox blocks it from opening network connections — your recordings, transcripts, and summaries stay on your device. (This applies to the app itself; for how this website handles information, see "About this website" below.)

What the app handles, and where it stays

When you use Lumin Notes, the app creates and stores the following only on your Mac, inside its sandboxed application container:

  • Audio (and optional screen) recordings of meetings you choose to record.
  • Transcripts generated from those recordings.
  • Summaries, titles, action items, and speaker labels generated from those transcripts.
  • Calendar event details (titles, times, attendees, join links) read from your Mac's Calendar, used to show upcoming meetings.
  • App settings — your preferences, custom categories, and custom vocabulary.

None of this is uploaded. There are no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party SDKs that phone home.

How "no data leaves your Mac" is enforced

This is not just a policy promise — it is enforced by macOS:

  • Lumin Notes is distributed with the App Sandbox enabled and no network entitlement (com.apple.security.network.client / .server are absent).
  • As a result, macOS blocks every outbound network connection at the operating-system level. The app contains no code that attempts to contact a server.

You can confirm this yourself in Settings → Privacy inside the app.

Permissions the app requests, and why

  • Microphone — to record your voice for transcription.
  • Screen & System Audio Recording — used only to capture the audio of the other participants in a meeting (via Apple's ScreenCaptureKit). If you choose "Audio + screen," it can also record the meeting window's video. It is never used to monitor your screen in the background.
  • Calendar — to display your upcoming meetings and their join links.

All three are optional and are requested through the standard macOS permission prompts. You can revoke any of them at any time in System Settings.

Your control over your data

  • All files live in the app's container and in the locations shown under Settings → Storage. You can reveal them in Finder at any time.
  • You can delete any note (and its recording) from within the app.
  • You can optionally have recordings deleted automatically once a transcript is produced (Settings → Recording → Delete recording after transcript).
  • Uninstalling the app and removing its container removes all associated data.

Recording consent

You are responsible for obtaining any consent required to record a conversation. Recording-consent laws vary by jurisdiction, and many require the permission of everyone involved. Lumin Notes surfaces this on first launch and in Settings → About, but it remains your responsibility to comply with the law where you are.

Children

Lumin Notes is a productivity tool intended for general audiences and is not directed at children. In any case, the app collects no personal data from anyone.

Third-party software and models

The app includes open-source software libraries and on-device machine-learning models. They run locally and transmit nothing. Their license notices are reproduced in Settings → About → Open-source & model licenses.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change. Because the app collects nothing, changes will generally be clarifications.

About this website

This policy's "collects nothing" statement is about the Lumin Notes app. This website is informational: it sets no advertising or tracking cookies and does not collect personal information. The "Download" buttons link to the Mac App Store, where any purchase is handled by Apple under Apple's own terms and privacy policy. (Email addresses submitted to our earlier launch waitlist were stored privately and used only to announce the launch; they are never sold or shared, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time by emailing the address below.)
